Aikido Bridge Seminars  Ikeda Shihan’s Bridge Seminars bring together teachers and students from different Aikido organizations and backgrounds to share their skills, build friendships, and support the future growth of Aikido. By combining the knowledge of many instructors we hope to keep the full legacy of Aikido alive in the next generations of students and instructors.

Aikido Organizations

Aikido World Headquarters  The central organization of Aikido worldwide created by founder Morihei Ueshiba. Includes both the Aikikai Foundation and Hombu Dojo. All dan-ranked members of the Chicago Aikido Club are accredited by Aikido World Headquarters through ASU.

Aikido Schools of Ueshiba  Parent organization of the Chicago Aikido Club. An international federation of more than one hundred forty dojo organized under Mitsugi Saotome Shihan and affiliated with World Aikido Headquarters in Tokyo Japan.

Aiki Extensions  is a network of aikidoka who bring the benefits of martial arts training to unconventional settings and apply aiki principles in areas like youth violence prevention, psychotherapy, the arts, and Israeli/Palestinian peace programs. Aiki Extensions also promotes International Aiki Peace Week.

Other Aikido Dojo

Chicago Aikikai  ASU-affiliated Aikido dojo and Systema center based in the West Loop neighborhood of Chicago under the instruction of Marsha Turner Sensei. Host to annual seminar with Mitsugi Saotome Shihan.

Inaka Dojo  ASU-affiliated dojo based in Beecher, Illinois under the instruction of Wendy Whited Sensei. Hosts seminars with various teachers throughout the year.

Aikido of Evanston  ASU-affiliated dojo based in Evanston, Illinois under the instruction of Art Benjamin Sensei.

Abiding Spirit Aikikai  Based in McHenry County, Illinois under the instruction of Lisa Tomoleoni Sensei. Directly affiliated with World Aikido Headquarters. Friend and supporter of the Chicago Aikido Club and host to seminars with ASU instructor Hiroshi Ikeda Shihan.

Milwaukee Aikido Club  ASU-affiliated dojo based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Jo Takehara Sensei frequently teaches and gives seminars here. Founded by the late Norio “Mike” Mamura Sensei.

University Of Chicago Aikido  ASU-affiliated dojo based in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago at the University of Chicago. Under the instructor of Donald Levine Sensei.

Aikido Of West Bend  Along with the CAC Part of the new generation of ASU-affiliated dojo. Led by Eric Novak and his wife Nicole Novak. Aikido of West Bend is know for their strong core of younger students and frequent appearances at MidWest seminars.


Tohkon Judo Academy  Chicago Judo dojo home to several young World Class competitors with World Championship and Olympic experience from various countries around the world. Under the instruction of Doug Tono Sensei. Provides facilities for the Chicago Aikido Club.

Chicago Wushu  Martial arts school offering classes in Kung Fu, Tai Chi, Bau Gua and a variety of other Chinese martial arts. Under the instruction of Daniel Pessina Sifu. Previous host and continued supporter of Chicago Aikido Club.

Ravenswood Shorin-ryu Karate Dojo  A community-based dojo lead by Erik Matsunaga and practices out of the gymnasium at Ravenswood Fellowship United Methodist Church in Chicago’s Ravenswood neighborhood.  School in Yorkville offering instruction in Daito-Ryu Aikibudo Jujitsu Tai Sabaki. Under the guidance of Jean-Luc Moreau. Long-time associates of Tohkan Judo Academy.

Fight Jam Chicago  Group dedicated to promoting interest and understanding in the principles and practices of stage combat. Offers monthly free workshops in martial arts, stunts and stage fighting.

Japanese American Service Committee Social service organization serving the needs of the Chicago Japanese American community. Location of the Tokhon Judo Academy and Chicago Aikido Club.
